Shaftsbury is a mountainside town located in Bennington County, Vermont.  It is situated between the Walloomsac and Battenkill Rivers.  Shaftsbury borders Bennington and New York State.  It is located eight miles from Bennington and 97 miles from Montpelier.  Part of the West Mountain is located in Shaftsbury.

Shaftsbury offers many outdoor recreational possibilities.  They include hiking, biking, skiing and snowmobiling.  It is home to schools, stores, saw and paper mills and a woolen factory.  The town offers scenic views from historic Route 7A, between the Green and Taconic Mountains.  

Shaftsbury Vermont was home to 3,767 residents, according to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau.  Shaftsbury is comprised of 43.1 square miles of land and 0.1 square miles of water.
