Pittsfield is a countryside town located in Merrimack County, New Hampshire. It is located in the center of the Suncook Valley and is a short distance from Concord, the Seacoast, and the Lakes Region. Located on Routes 28 and 107, Pittsfield is 26 mile drive from Manchester, and 77 miles from Boston. Pittsfield was settled in 1768 and incorporated in 1782. The town was named after William Pitt, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Pittsfield was originally a farm town with several small areas; The Lower City, The Upper City, Berry District, Knowltons Corners and South Pittsfield. Pittsfield houses its own school system and a small downtown. It has been home to Globe Manufacturing since 1901. According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Pittsfield was home to 3,931 residents. This included 1,498 households and 1,056 families. The average family size was 3.05 and the average household size was 2.62. Pittsburg is comprised of 23.6 square miles of land and 0.3 square miles of water.
