Fremont is located in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. It is located 20 miles from Manchester and 51 miles from Boston. The town is crossed by the Rockingham Recreation Trial. It is bounded by Epping on the north, Danville and Sandtown on the south, Chester on the southwest, and by Raymond on the wests. Fremont was originally part of Brentwood, known as Poplin. The name was changed to Fremont in 1854, and was named after General John Fremont. It is home to Fremont Station, Lyford Crossing and the Old Meetinghouse, built in 1880 and listed on the National Register of historic places. Fremont was well known for it growth of hardwoods, which were used for ship’s masts. Later, the woods were used for home construction. Fremont was also home to the largest brickyard in New Hampshire, and to the barrel manufacturing company, Spaulding and Frost Cooperage.
