Chesterfield Real Estate

Chesterfield is located in Cheshire County, New Hampshire. It includes the villages of Spofford and Spoffard Lake.  It is bordered by the Connecticut River on the west, and lies entirely within the Connecticut River watershed.  Chesterfield contains 45.6 square miles of land and 2.0 square miles of water.

Chesterfield was incorporated in 1752, and named after the fourth Earl of Chesterfield, Philip Stanhope.  The town was once home to manufacturing, including spinning wheel part and hand tools.  It contains some of the best farmland in Cheshire County.
Chesterfield is home to Chesterfield Academy, which was established in 1794.  It is also home to Asbury Church, the oldest Methodist church in New Hampshire.  One of the area’s largest resorts, Spofford Lake is also located in Chesterfield.  The town is also home to Chesterfield Gorge Natural Area, Wantastiquet Mountain State Forest, and a portion of Pisgah State Park. 

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Chesterfield’s population was 3,542.  This included 1,366 households, and 1,005 families.
