Portland Real Estate

Portland Maine is an old seacoast city located along Casco Bay in Cumberland County.  It is the largest city in the state and is the banking and social capital of northern New England.  It is also New England’s largest tonnage seaport.

Portland is home to unique boutiques, shops, museums and restaurants.  It is also home to one of the campuses of the University of Maine.  Popular tourist destinations include the historic Old Port District and the Arts District.

The city is also home to several notable or historic buildings.  They include the Custom House, Franklin Towers, 477 Congress Street (the Time and Temperature Building), the Eastland Park Hotel, the Wadsworth-Longfellow House, the Neal S. Dow House, Victoria Mansion, and the McLellan-Sweat Mansion.  Many modern high-rise buildings are also located in the city’s historic districts.  

The 2010 city population was 66,194, growing 3 percent since the census of 2000. With a metro population of over 500,000, the Greater Portland area is home to more than one-third of Maine's total population.

As of the 2000 census there were 29,714 households, and 13,549 families residing in the city.
